Palo Duro Canyon State Park


Guided tours on horseback, a beautiful canyon, and an annual outdoor amphiteater play, along with rare animal species such as the Texas Horned Lizard and Palo Duro Mouse, come together in beautiful Palo Duro Canyon State Park near Canyon, Texas.

Palo Duro Canyon State Park

Famous for: Being the “Grand Canyon of Texas” and the Texas musical drama that is presented in an amphitheater during the summer months.

Admission: $5 per day, per person (13 and older)

Travelers will like: Seeing the canyon on horseback via a guided tour from Old West Stables, located inside the canyon.

Easy site seeing: Enjoy a scenic drive through the park.

Camping in the park: 7 cabins are located in the park, with prices from $60 to $125 per night.  79 electrical campsites, 25 tent sites, and several back country sites are available at a cost of $12-$25 per night.

Best months to visit: Unless you’ve come to see the play, avoid the summer season when it’s running, as that is the park’s busiest time.

Nearest major cities: Amarillo, Texas, is about 30 miles away.
