Giraffe and Jared, Legoland Ca

Legoland is a great place for a family adventure year round.  There are plenty of indoor and outdoor activities to keep kids of many different ages occupied.  In the summer, however, it can get crowded.  Here are some tips to help you beat the crowds.

In the Morning

  1. Arrive Early – Arrive at the park at opening. Not all the rides are available, but those that are will be much less crowded. This is the best time to ride the ever popular Driving School and Jr. Driving School rides.
  2. Park on the Bottom Left Side of the Parking Lot – Just under the priority and disabled parking are rows that are seldom full because the average Legoland visitor continues to the right.  Snag these spots so you don’t have to walk too far.
  3. Head into the Park – If it’s crowded when entering the park you can save yourself some lines by staying away from the entrance.  Head right if you have older kids, but don’t stop at Build and Test or the Duplo area.  You can return to these when it gets hotter and more crowded.  Head left and walk toward Fun Town with younger kids.

Later in the Day

If the lines for rides start getting to you, never fear!  Legoland is unique in that it offers plenty of fun places where adults can take a break, and kids can get moving and creating.

  1. The Hideaways – Located on Castle Hill, this is one of my favorite spots in the whole park.  It’s just a giant play structure with only one outlet.  Kids can climb and slide to their hearts’ content.  If you have a school aged child you can sit back and chat with other moms.  My kids always beg to stay longer.
  2. Get Wet – The Pirate Shores Area has two separate water play areas.  The separate water play areas give the little guys their own space while giving big kids a chance to let loose. There is also a more informal water play area with a few squirters and some other water activities at the entrance to Fun Town.
  3. Build, Race, Create – Mid-day is a great time to visit the Build and Test and Duplo Play Areas close to the entrance of the park.  At the Build and Test, kids of all ages have the chance to build and race Lego powered vehicles.  The Duplo  play area provides a huge collection of Duplo blocks.  You can build a Duplo castle or a giant Duplo bridge.

Evening

This is my favorite time of the day at Legoland.  The crowds starting heading home and your family gets to take advantage of line-free rides and attractions.  Once my son and our neighbor rode the Splash Battle boats several times in a row.  Some restaurants in the park also offer great family dinner specials, so keep your eye out.
