Babe Ruth Museum

Babe Ruth Museum

With the 2008 World Series here, baseball fever is in the air.  The boys of summer will soon hang up their bats and gloves and await spring training.  Fans in Philly and Florida will be cheering on their teams, some in the stands, some from their homes.  But what can you do if you don’t have tickets for one of the big games?  You can follow the trail from Tampa to Philadelphia and check out these baseball museums along the way.

  1. Ted Williams Museum and Hitters Hall of Fame, St. Petersburg, FL. Located at Tropicana Field, it’s free for stadium ticket holders.
  2. Ty Cobb Museum, Royston, GA.  Dedicated to the education and understanding of baseball and of Ty Cobb.
  3. Atlanta Braves Museum and Hall of Fame, Atlanta, GA. Located at Turner Stadium, the museum is the starting point for stadium tours.
  4. Shoeless Joe Jackson Museum and Baseball Library, Greenville, SC.  A new museum in the relocated home of Joe Jackson.
  5. North Carolina Baseball Museum, Wilson, NC.  Found at Fleming Stadium, this museum has memorabilia from many of North Carolina’s (and baseball’s) greats.
  6. Virginia Sports Hall of Fame and Museum, Portsmouth, VA.  This museum is interactive, with areas for visitors to try their skills as well as learn about Virginia’s sporting greats.
  7. Babe Ruth Birthplace and Museum, Baltimore, MD.  Dedicated to Babe Ruth, the Orioles and Colts, and other local sports teams in the Baltimore area.
  8. Delaware Sports Museum and Hall of Fame, Wilmington, DE.  Located in Wilmington’s Frawley Stadium.
  9. Yogi Berra Museum and Learning Center, Little Falls, NJ.  Located on the campus of Montclair State University.
  10. Little League Museum, Williamsport, PA.  A tribute to Little League baseball, past and present.
