Top 10 Pumpkin Patches in the U.S.
- Pumpkin Patch Fun
- Turban Squash
- Gourds O’Plenty
After my post last week with my favorite pumpkin patches in the Bay Area, I got to thinking about what the best of the best are in the rest of the United States. With the help of my friends and family, I have put together a list of the best pumpkin patches across the U.S. In no particular order, I present you my selections:
Brush Creek Farms in Dayton, Tennessee
Smolak Farms in North Andover, Massachusetts
Goebbert’s Pumpkin Patch in Hampshire, Illinois
Anderson Farms in Erie, Colorado
Craven Farm in Snohomish, Washington
Burt’s Farm in Dawsonville, Georgia
Treworgy Orchards in Levant, Maine
Jumbo’s Pumpkin Patch in Middleton, Maryland
Plumper Pumpkins in Portland, Oregon
Lombardi Ranch in Saugus, California–It suffered some loss through the fire last year, but is back this year with fun things for families to do.
I focused on finding pumpkin patches that offer a whole day of entertainment; hay rides, corn mazes, picnic areas, petting zoos, pumpkin contests, everything. And, mind you, these are totally subjective and not everyone’s idea of pumpkin patches, so I would love to hear about your favorites!
Do you have a hidden gem in your area? How about a place you would drive 60 minutes to see? Or something that your kids ask to visit year after year? Share your best, we would love to know!

A friend in Iowa told me that sometimes they will drive out to Vala’s Pumpkin Patch in Nebraska, as it has a 5-acre corn maize!
Silverman’s Farm in Easton Connecticut offers a lot of things to do. It offers hay rides, a petting zoo, apple picking, pumpkins galore and much more.
We have Long & Scott Farms in Central Florida. Inexpensive family fun.

We love going to County Line Orchard; they’ve got pumpkins, apple picking, a corn maze, a kids’ zoo, a kids’ train ride, and more. Plus the yummiest pumpkin donuts EVER, and fudge, and cider, and… I’m making myself hungry….

Here in New York’s Capital Region, we end up going to a couple of places to get in our Fall fun. At Goold’s Farm, we pick apples and pumpkins, and snack on hot cider and cider doughnuts. And we’re going to visit Liberty Farm for its Election ‘08 Corn Maze.
Molly – thanks for the Nebraska recommendation, figures they would have a huge corn maze!
Anne – Connecticut must be beautiful this time of year, with all the leaves changing color.
Moms at Work – Florida is probably as hot as it is out here in California. Cracks me up to wear shorts to pick pumpkins
JYL – thanks for visiting and tweeting! I am kitchengirl on twitter, would love to connect….
Kitrona – you had me at Pumpkin Donuts!
Good & Crazy – welcome to our site, glad you stopped by.
Sandra – ok, what is it with pumpkin donuts? We are definitely missing out on something here in California. I would love pumpkin donuts, maybe I will try to make them at home!
Happy pumpkin picking!
In Northern Virginia – well, the DC Metro area in general – Cox Farms is a legend. It’s 116 acres of pumpkins, hayrides, slides, petting farms, and just plain fun. The Washington Post called it the “Big Kahuna of farms with fall festivities in Northern Virginia.” It’s so popular, that I would advise visitors to come on weekday afternoons when the crowds are manageable.

I have heard about Cox Farms, from someone in Tennessee, it is legendary. Thanks for the tip – avoid the weekends is probably a good bet at most of these places.
I love the pumpkin patches! We have http://www.hunsaderfarms.com/ here in SW Florida. They have a huge festival 2-3 weekends each fall.
Thanks! #gno sister

There are two places in Utah that are awesome this time of year: Thanksgiving Point and Gardner Historic Village. The former has a corn maze, a pumpkin patch, family activities in their Farm Country, and more. The latter is more of a boutique environment built around an historic mill. The entire property decorates for Halloween with life-size witches in a bunch of comical scenes (see my blog for pics). They devote one weekend during this season to kid-oriented activities: a hay ride with a story-telling witch, a witch hunt, outdoor entertainment, etc. The following weekend, their busiest of the year, caters to girls 18 and older and encourages them to come in witch costume for girl’s night out. This makes good on their tagline: “Witches Milling About.” My favorite? Their pumpkin-shaped sugar cookies. Licking my lips as we speak

We host a pumpkin festival just 45 min. from Portland, Oregon. This year is the 5th Annual Pumpkin Festival. A great country style festival featuring a pumpkin patch, hayrides, fundraiser pony rides by the Rodeo Royalty, 4-H petting zoo, pumpkin bowling, games, photo spots, entertainment and music, local craft vendors, country store, and plenty of great foods! We are a child safe environment. Free admission – free parking. Parking donations benefit the Columbia County Amani Center – a non-profit child abuse assessment and treatment center. October 10 & 11th and October 17 & 18. Hours: Saturday 10am – 6 pm, Sunday 12 pm – 5 pm. Fun for everyone!
We used to live in Nebraska, and literally the best pumpkin patch out there is called, “Vala’s Pumpkin Patch”. There is so much to do…look at the website http://www.valaspumpkinpatch.com It is located by Omaha in a town called Gretna. THE BEST!~
Vala’s Pumpkin Patch absolutely needs to be on the list. After looking thru the other websites of the other pumpkin patches, although they look nice, there is nothing that compares to the ever growing, tradition keeping atmosphere of Vala’s. I encourage anyone that is in the Gretna, Ne. area to visit. However, it is a bit expensive but well worth it. It has everything and keeps developing little and new additions every year.
wow, it is that time of year again! Amazing how quickly it goes by!
Thanks for the recommendations for Vala’s, it does look awesome. And good to know about the farms in SW Florida, Utah, Tennessee and Oregon. Love this holiday
Vala’s pumpkin patch in gretna nebraska has got to be the best in the country. Visited friends and took my children. Was beautiful, charming, and huge. Lots to do, lots of local color, and worth every penny. Food was great and loved the pig races!
