With its gold mining heritage and spectacular location in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Jackson California screams romance for your next getaway. Easy access from either State Route 49 or 88 will take you right to your destination. This area is home to some of the largest gold mines in the state, but still retains its small town charm. The history of the bygone days is evident in the attractions. Take a tour of the Kennedy Gold Mines or visit one of the many vineyards in the area.
Stroll hand in hand through the gardens of the Amador County Museum where there are pathways through the rose and herb gardens, as well as benches where you can sit and drink in the scenery while you are surrounded by flowers of all kinds. The museum itself is a house built in the mid-1800’s by one of the earliest settlers of the town. Inside you can browse different types of exhibits, such as ones telling the story of the Gold Rush, the Native Americans that lived in this area and a fashion and sewing exhibit.
Sit and gaze over Jackson Gate where you can be alone together in the dramatic scenery. This is the site of a mining camp in the 1850’s where 500 miners lived and worked. The last mining ditch in the country was dug here and the water sold for $1 per inch.
If you are here in April and May, you will see the blooms of over 300,000 daffodils at Daffodil Hill
