Los Angeles, California – the City of Angels – has wonderful surprises in store you when you choose this city for your next family vacation. Museums and parks abound, as do places to stay and dine. This is one city where you will be hopping trying to get in as much as you can before your vacation is over. Griffith Park is one location where you will find everything in one place – the zoo, museums, amusement parks and more.

Travel Town Museum helps to celebrate and preserve the history of the railroad in Southern California. Here children can pretend that they are the train engineers and climb up and over large locomotives. There is a 10-minute miniature train ride for the children around the town. Adults will enjoy browsing the exhibits and show just as much delight as the children in the sight of many sizes and types of trains all gathered in one place.

The Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens is another perfect venue for a family outing where you can spend the whole day. Children under 2 are free. A wide range of animals and plants await you at the zoo and the blooming flowers and shrubs in the gardens come from all over the world. You can take a guided tour or choose to wander around on your own if there is something you are really interested in.

Any family with kids who liked the “Land Before Time” will need to visit the La Brea Tar Pits and see the way that paleontologists have been able to find dinosaur bones in the muck.  While you’re there check out the whole museum campus and see the different collections available.

For more spectacular pieces of history and art, as well as the best views in the city, be sure to head out to the Getty Center.
