  • Named for a local conservationist, the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Biscayne Nature Center has been located in Crandon Park for 32 years, but this brand new classroom and exhibit facility just opened April 6th, 2001.This northernmost end of Crandon Park is an environmental study area, and is home to this cooperative project between Miami-Dade Public Schools, Miami-Dade Parks and Recreation, and the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Foundation. Loaded with preserved Florida Coastline habitats, this center and its environs offer lots for kids and families.Check out one of the self-guided tours through the center. The Tequesta Hammock Trail is an easy 25 minute walk through the coastal hammock area. Osprey Beach Trail is a one hour walking trip offering a view to barrier island vegetation and wildlife. Directions

From the south, take U.S.1 north to exit for Rickenbacker Causeway (right exit as U.S.1 becomes I-95 north). From the north, take I-95 south to Rickenbacker Causeway exit (last exit prior ot I-95 becoming U.S.1 south). Follow signs to causeway, pay $1 toll, and continue towards Key Biscayne. As you enter Crandon Park (no turns necessary, just watch for signs) watch for the left turn to the North Beach. Proceed through the toll booth for Crandon Park, and take a sharp left towards the Nature Center.
