After years of neglected and a threatened demolition, Springside, a 20-acres estate that belonged to the founder of Vassar College, is finally being restored and renovated back to its original glory. Designed by celebrate landscaper Andrew Jackson Downing, it's one of only a handful of his creations that remains largely intact. It's free to visit the lovely grounds, and there are even special Work Days each month where visitors can get their own hands dirty helping to restore this National Historic Landmark.
