Just as an addendum to the Minneapolis Star Tribune article on Lutsen ski area backcountry skiing: it could be sublime or horrible, depending on NATURAL snow conditions. Bad PR

Our family of four went to Lutsen in early March, We did the whole package on line. You get one lift ticket for your entire stay. On the third day my 18 year old son noticed his ticket was gone. scenic but costly

We skied Lutsen Spring Break 2006. Some positives: decent terrain, not crowded midweek, ample accommodations (Caribou Highlands Lodges), hills are small so kids will not disappear. Lutsen: A Very Special Place

I've skied every state in the West except Hawaii, as well as Canada and much of the Midwest and East. Lutsen is special. The scenery is spectacular.
