One of the most beautiful missions on the California coast, Mission San Carlos Borrome Del Rio Carmelo is a beautifully restored adobe mission. Self-guided tours are available, and the mission still functions as a parish, school, museum, and store. You needn't be religious to enjoy this beautiful piece of history.

When you go, be sure to take the complimentary guided tour (about an hour) as the story of the mission is worth hearing. more on TripAdvisor
