Hawaii is abundant in beaches and history. A trip to Hawaii is not complete without experiencing both. The Honolulu museums will help both adults and kids learn about the history of Hawaii.
The Arizona Memorial Museum is a great Honolulu museum that is not as crowded as some of the others. Here you will see the USS Bowfin Submarine. You will find a great deal of history on display. This Honolulu museum is not on any of the tour bus stops, but is very easy to get to if you use the city bus system.
The Hawaii Children’s Discovery Center is a wonderful place to take the kids to learn about such things as the human body and how it works. They will learn about Hawaii and its history. There are many interactive displays and centers for the kids to participate and learn while having fun. This is a great indoor activity for a rainy day. Strollers are not allowed in the center, but don’t worry; there’s a great discovery center for toddlers as well.
The Damien Museum is one Honolulu museum that is truly unforgettable. Father Damien devoted his life to caring for and teaching those that were suffering from leprosy. This museum tells his story.
Plan at least two museum day,s as there are many to see. There are tour buses that will take you from one Honolulu museum to another. I would suggest using the buses if you have younger kids. If your kids are older consider a self guided tour so that you can set your own pace.
