Located in Aurora's old Central Fire Station, the Aurora Regional Fire Museum features a variety of interactive exhibits designed to educate and entertain children, families, and firefighters. Museum visitors can pass a fire bucket, crank an old-fashioned siren, and check out equipment that dates all the the way back to the 1850s. The museum's collection includes photographs, fire badges, helmets, nozzles, axes, ladders, toy fire engines, and more unusual items, including the Illinois State Championship "Buck-Horn Trophy" won by the Aurora Fire Department, containers full of hay and oats found under the second floor during the renovation of the old Central Fire Station, the original brass switch plate cover from the Company Number 2 bunk room, and the original pizza oven used by the Aurora Firefighters at the central station to start the "pizza-night" tradition. The museum also has an amphitheater than can be rented for birthday parties. more on GoCityKids
