The Colburn Earth Science Museum, also known as the Colburn Gem & Mineral Museum, has more than 4,500 different specimens on display. In addition to more than 350 specimens of locally mined minerals like mica and quartz, the museum has an exhibit dedicated to the history of the mining industry in the state of North Carolina.
