Laudably, Iowa has not yet begun the lamentable practice of charging fees for state parks, so Pilot Knob is completely free to visit, although they do charge for camping. more on Epinions.com

Pilot Knob was once considered to be the highest point in Iowa (not that thats saying much, admittedly), and although it has now been demoted to third place, the view from the top of the tower is still excellent, and probably as good a view as one can get of classic Iowa countryside. more on Epinions.com
