- Once part of the Louis Allard plantation, City Park has been here a long time and has seen it all -- including that favorite pastime among 18th-century New Orleans gentry: dueling. At the entrance, you'll see a statue of General P. G. T. Beauregard, whose order to fire on Fort Sumter opened the Civil War and who New Orleanians fondly refer to as "the Great Creole." A pleasant (but hot) Sunday afternoon at the City Park
Before my husband and I visited New Orleans City Park, I looked at their website, and it was full of hepful info with directions, park maps, days and times the attractions are open, fees, schedule of events, etc. We visited City Park on a recent Sunday afternoon. Many of the attractions are within walking distance of the streetcar stop, but bear in mind that this is a BIG park and the distances might seem longer than they look on the map, ... indiana31, a user of Tripadvisor.
