Fort Macon State Park serves two purposes. For history buffs, its has a five sided stone fort, used to protect the area in the 18th and 19th centuries. There are guided tours, exhibits and occasionally, re-enactments. But the park offers leisure and recreation, too. There's fishing, hiking and swimming available on the grounds surrounding the fort.
