There's no better way to visit the Statue of Liberty than by taking the Staten Island Ferry. The 5 mile, 25 minute ride offers a majestic view of New York Harbor and the skyscrapers and bridges of lower Manhattan. Operated by NYC DOT, the nine vessel fleet provides approximately 109 trips to and from the island every weekday, with fewer -- but still a substantial number -- on weekends. Bicyclists are welcome, and designated areas are set aside for bicycle storage.
