4.0: Great views and nice slopes, but low quality kids rental boots

The panoramic view over the MIssissippi River is beautiful. A friend who spent time being a ski bum and has skied all over the U.S. says that Chestnut Mt's view is only second to the views from Heavenly Valley in Calif/Nevada. I haven't skiied quite as extensively as he has, but from my experience (and I used to ski Heavenly frequently and have skied in Colorado, Vermont, and New Hampshire), I definitely agree with his assessment. Although none of my family are beginning skiers, I think it would be a good place for beginners due to its unusual layout. Typically, ski resorts have a base lodge at the bottom of the mountain, and the gentler slopes are at the bottom. However, the steeper slopes are often further up the mountain, so hot shot skiers come shooting down and whizz right by the slower less skilled ... GS-CS_leader, a user of Tripadvisor.
