Took the bus tour which was a very informative trip thru the town and ground level mine operation buildings. more on TripAdvisor

After the tour, you return to the depot and can, if you wish pan for gold. more on TripAdvisor

We then boarded an adequately comfortable bus (more of a trolley really) for a quick tour of the town and some of its historic structures. more on TripAdvisor

It starts at the Homestake Visitors Center which is a modern facility perched on the edge of the open cut (a hole that is a mile across and 1200 feet deep). more on TripAdvisor
