Great place to break from driving, but not a real destination. Watch the kids.

Not crowded even on a Saturday afternoon, which was nice. Wholesome historical ambiance, but it wasn't too overwhelming. The place has been there since 1901, but back in that time it actually was a functioning railroad depot. Train rides are $1, and are not underpriced. Directions

The museum is located about two miles from the Santa Barbara Airport and about one mile from the Goleta train station, which is served by all of Amtrak's San Diegan trains traveling north of Los Angeles. From downtown Santa Barbara, drive seven miles

Hours

1 to 4 pm. Closed Mondays and Tuesdays. The museum is closed every year on New Year's Day, Easter Sunday, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas.
